SOUTH CHARLESTON, WV March 16 2017 — South Charleston police said a man charged with sexual assault told police about the incident at an unusual time – he was being interviewed for a probationary police officer job.
Tyler Ray Price, 21, of Nitro is charged with second-degree sexual assault, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.
Police said Price came to the South Charleston Police Department on Feb. 8 to participate in a pre-employment interview for a police officer’s job. During the interview, Price disclosed to Sgt. A.R. Gordon that he had sex with a woman after they had been out drinking, police said. Price later acknowledged in the interview that he had videoed the woman after the encounter was over and that he had it on his phone, the complaint said.
On Feb. 23, police interviewed the woman and asked her if she had consented to have sex with Price. She said she did not consent and had no knowledge of having sex with him or of a video that he had recorded, the complaint said. The woman said she had consumed a lot of alcohol on the night the incident reportedly occurred.
Police said the woman also said that on Feb. 8 she received a phone call from Price, telling her about the video and the incident.
Price is currently being held in South Central Regional Jail on a $25,000 property/surety bond.
