Wichita police suspend use of stop stick after officer injured

WICHITA, Kan. Feb 12 2017
The Wichita Police Department has elected to suspend the use of stop sticks used to flatten the tires of fleeing cars less than a week after an officer was critically hurt trying to lay to equipment down in a chase.
The 30-day suspension comes as officer Brian Arterburn remains in a Wichita hospital recovering after being hit by a suspect driven vehicle.
Wichita officer who was run over suffered injuries to chest, abdomen, brain

Police told KAKE News reporter Greg Miller the decision comes out of an increased need for safety -- not because of any investigation or indication Arterburn misused the equipment during the pursuit of the vehicle that hit him.
