JACKSON TWP. MI Feb 8 2017 Two Wayne County women were jailed after a failed shoplifting attempt that left them with nearly $4,700 in makeup and "beauty devices."
Wooster residents Ajia S. Hilton, 21, and Ashley N. Mace, 27, were arrested at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Kohl's department store, 5478 Dressler Rd. NW.
Stark County Jail records said the women were seen selecting about $2,485 in "cosmetics and beauty devices" from the store and then entering a fitting room. One of the women left, retrieved a child's stroller and then returned to the fitting room. Police say the duo placed the items into the stroller and then tried to leave the store without paying.
Police seized the stolen merchandise and found another $2,200 in merchandise that they believe Mace and Hilton stole from the nearby Ulta store, the jail records said.
Hilton and Mace were each jailed on a felony charge of receiving stolen property. Hilton was additionally charged with felony theft and Mace with complicity.
The women remained in the jail early Wednesday, each held in lieu of $50,000 bond pending a Massillon Municipal Court hearing.
