Teens charged in explosion at school

Council Bluffs IA Jan 8 2017 -- Two students from Lewis Central High School are in custody after a small explosion in the school's lunch room.
According to the Council Bluffs Police Department, officers were called to the school Wednesday around 12:45 p.m. to assist the Fire Department with a small explosion in the lunch room.
Upon arrival, authorities discovered a commercial grade firework had detonated under a table in the lunch room where several students were eating. No students were injured as a result of the explosion.

After a joint investigation by the Police Department, Fire Department and school security, officers arrested two juvenile students.
One of the juveniles is charged with first-degree arson, while the other is charged with possession of an explosive or incendiary device.
The school quickly returned to normal activities, and the names of the arrested juveniles have not been released by authorities.
