Jefferson TX Jan 20 2017 A Jefferson ISD teacher was arrested this week on a charge of having an improper relationship between educator and student.
Jefferson ISD police arrested Wesley Dawn Lawless, 27, Tuesday according to a release from JISD Superintendent Rob Barnwell, and she was booked into the Marion County Jail on $20,000 bond. Lawless was released Wednesday after posting bond.
"This arrest was a result of information gathered through a comprehensive investigation related to an inappropriate relationship between this teacher and an 18-year-old male student," the release said.
According to the release, Lawless taught outdoor education at the middle school and vocational agriculture classes at the high school.
“Unfortunately, we have been dealing with a disturbing situation the last couple of days. However, it is very fortunate that our police chief and administration was able to uncover the facts and obtain a confession," Barnwell said in the release. "Today the teacher resigned from her position and will no longer be employed in education. Due to confidentiality requirements, I am restricted from giving any other details related to this issue.
Barnwell went on to say the safety and security of the students is a priority and that the district would take all necessary steps to be sure the situation is dealt with properly.
