GUILDERLAND NY Jan 29 2017 Guilderland Police say they've arrested an Albany woman after they say she was stealing from shop in Crossgates Mall.
Authorities say 22-year-old Ajanice Spooner was confronted by a loss prevention officer inside Lord & Taylor and when this happened police say she used her 10-month-old child to shield the officer from handcuffing her.
Police say Spooner then pushed and punched the loss prevention representative before going to Forever 21. Police say a fight broke out between a group of women and loss prevention. That's when police say Spooner handed the child over to an unknown woman and fled the mall before they arrived. Guilderland Police say they took possession of the child and called Child Protective Services.
Police say Spooner later turned herself in. They say she has been banned from Crossgates Mall since 2011.
Guilderland Police Spooner is charged with burglary, petit larceny, endangering the welfare of a child and assault. Authorities say she was wanted by Guilderland Police and New York State Police for burglary, criminal impersonation, forgery and two counts of petit larceny.
Spooner was remanded to Albany County Jail on $5,000 bond. The child was given to his grandfather.
