MERIDIAN, ID Dec 24 2016- Two Hailey women are in the Ada County Jail, after police say a shoplifting incident led investigators to a quantity of methamphetamine.
According to Meridian Deputy Chief Tracy Basterrechea, the two women entered the Walmart store on Overland Road late Saturday with a child and a backpack.
“The store’s loss prevention personnel suspected the backpack was empty,” Basterrechea said.
So store officials followed the women through the store, as the two allegedly placed about $200 worth of items –- cologne, hair products and underwear, according to reports -– into the backpack.
“It appeared they were also cutting items out of their packaging and placing them in the backpack,” Basterrechea said.
Store personnel detained the two and called police.
Officers found one woman carrying a substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine, Basterrechea said. A drug-sniffing police dog searched the suspects’ vehicle, leading investigators to more drugs.
“In all, officers found about five grams of meth. The drugs in their vehicle were packaged in individual baggies and ready for delivery,” he stated.
Emerald Crow, 29, (pictured, left) and Faro Lewis, 21, (pictured, right) each face a burglary and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver charge. Both are felonies.
The child was turned over to a family member, police said.
