ST. LOUIS MO Dec 8 2016 – St. Louis police were called to a north city high school and school security officers deployed mace to help disperse students involved in a fight.
According to Patrick Wallace, a spokesman for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, a pair of altercations occurred at Northwest Law Academy High School. St. Louis Public Schools safety and security personnel were the first responders but contacted police and juvenile detectives for assistance.
Parents were contacted and picked up the students involved, Wallace said.
During the altercations, school security officers told students to disperse the area and they refused. Those officers then shot two short bursts of mace into the crowd.
The fights happened a day after a student was gunned down blocks from the school. In that case, a 17-year-old teen was shot and killed on Emma near Riverview Boulevard just after 6:30 p.m. Two other minors were also injured during the shooting. One was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
