Jacksonville teacher arrested with student sex charges

JACKSONVILLE, N.C Dec 17 2016 A former high school athletic director and teacher has been charged with having sex with a student.
Jacksonville police say they arrested Brendan Kennedy, 29, of Jacksonville, on six counts of indecent liberties with a student and four counts of sexual acts with a student.
Warrants say the victim was a girl and that the offenses happened in October and November. They did not say whether the sex acts happened on school property, or not.
Onslow County Schools says Kennedy resigned on December 2nd. He was a career and technical education business teacher and athletic director at Northside High School.
The school system says he began in February 2015 as a teacher and this past summer was named athletic director.
Police say they began their investigation several weeks ago after they were notified of an inappropriate teacher/student relationship.
Kennedy was freed from jail after posting a $20,000 secured bond Thursday afternoon.

In addition to resigning, the system says Kennedy also surrendered his state teaching license.
