Columbus security officer involved in fatal shooting privateofficer.com

COLUMBUS OH Dec 22 2016 – A man shot by a private security officer after claiming that the man tried to run him over with his vehicle, has died.
The incident involving Christopher Wilkes happened earlier this month but no charges have been filed against the security guard, according to Columbus homicide detectives.
On Dec. 8, police say the 25-year-old security guard was working at the Park Trails Apartments on the Far Southeast Side at approximately 8:23 p.m., when Wilkes tried to run over him with a vehicle and the security guard opened fire, hitting Wilkes in the upper body, homicide unit Sgt. Stanley Latta said.
The security officer was apparently helping a woman who claimed Wilkes had assaulted her when Wilkes tried to run the man down, Latta said.
Wilkes was found in his wrecked vehicle and taken to Grant Medical Center where he died Tuesday evening, Latta said.
The security officer is a valid weapon permit holder and cooperated with this investigation.

This is the 101st homicide of 2016, Latta said.
