Aliquippa police officer accused of shooting jail guard after fight privateofficer.com

PITTSBURGH PA Dec 9 2016 - An Aliquippa police officer has been relieved of his duties, pending an investigation into an incident in which he allegedly shot an Allegheny County jail guard following a fight at a bar in Pittsburgh’s Brentwood neighborhood, sources tell WPXI’s Amy Marcinkiewicz.
Police said officers were called just before 3 a.m. Thursday to the 100 block of Stewart Avenue in Carrick for a reported assault that turned into a shooting while they were en route.
Authorities found the 29-year-old jail guard suffering from a gunshot wound to his stomach at the intersection of Stewart Avenue and Windfall Way. He was conscious when he was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
Police said it was determined that a fight occurred between a group of people inside the Milestone Bar on Brownsville Road in Brentwood. When the bar closed, the group continued arguing and fighting, leading to the shooting, police said.
According to Marcinkiewicz’s sources, the off-duty jail guard looked at the off-duty 24-year-old police officer at one point and said, “I have a gun. I’m going to shoot you.” The Aliquippa police officer then pulled out his gun and shot the jail guard in the stomach, sources said.
The Aliquippa police officer was detained, but had not been charged, police said. The matter has been referred to the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office, which will determine whether charges will be filed.
Sources told Channel 11 News that the Aliquippa police officer, who has been on the force for less than six months, has been relieved of duty, pending the district attorney’s review.

Authorities have not yet said whether the Allegheny County jail guard also had a gun on him at the time of the shooting.
