Winter Springs FL Nov 10 2016  A Winter Springs High School security guard was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly slammed a 15-year-old student to the ground before choking him, according to police.
Winter Springs police later found firearms inside his vehicle.
Deron J. Smiley, 44, faces child abuse without great bodily harm, battery and possession of firearms on school property charges, police said.
The altercation started as an argument over the student not being in class.
The two exchanged words before Smiley allegedly grabbed him and threw him to the ground.
The school resource officer was called and he broke the two up.

Smiley told the officer that he made a mistake.
He told the officer about the two guns he had in his vehicle. While Smiley said he was a concealed weapons permit, it is against state law to have guns on school property, police said.
He was taken to the Seminole County Jail.
A Seminole County School District spokesman said Smiley, who also was a junior varsity girl's basketball coach, was fired and will not be returning to the school.
Smiley had been a coach with the school for about two years and was filling in as a security guard for about three weeks, said spokesman Michael Lawrence.
Lawrence said the school principal will meet with Smiley's team and alert team members' parents.
