ORANGE PARK, Fla. Nov 23 2016 - A man accused of shoplifting was arrested Saturday after a foot chase through the Orange Park Mall, the Clay County Sheriff's Office said.
Frank Smith, 31, faces charges of theft, assaulting a security officer and vandalism.
Smith was stopped by mall security and a deputy after he left the Old Navy store with a bag of merchandise, according to the arrest report.
Smith resisted, the deputy grabbed him by the wrists and then Smith broke away, running through the common area of the mall, lowering his shoulder and knocking another mall-security officer down, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Smith then ran into Dillard’s and pulled down stocked shelves as he went, in an attempt to lose the pursuing deputy, but the deputy fire a Taser at Smith, the report said.
As the deputy tried to handcuff him, investigators said, Smith kicked and thrashed.
Another deputy arrived, and shot Smith a second time with a Taser.
Smith had $71 worth of merchandise in the bag, and some kind of shoplifting countermeasure that blocked the anti-theft equipment from going off at Old Navy, deputies said. The damage at Dillard’s was estimated at more than $3,000.

Smith was booked into the Clay County Jail.
