Manchester woman assaults police officer during shoplifting arrest

MANCHESTER NH Nov 19 2016 — A woman accused of shoplifting from a convenience store struck a police officer with a full can of hard iced tea when she threw it while trying to get away, police said Thursday.
Kristie Chapman, 43, was arrested about 3 a.m. Wednesday on charges of theft by unauthorized taking, simple assault and resisting arrest/detention, police said in a release.
A clerk at Cumberland Farms, 275 Hanover St., told police a woman had walked out of the store with two cans of Twisted Tea she had not purchased.
Officer Alexander Martens tried to stop Chapman about a block away, police said. She threw one of the unopened cans, hitting Martens in the face, police said. Chapman continued to resist as she was being handcuffed, police said.

Chapman is scheduled for a probable cause hearing Nov. 23 in Manchester circuit court.
