Norris Green England Nov 11 2016 A G4S security van driver was attacked outside Lloyds bank on Broadway in Norris Green today .
The incident happened at around 11.50am this morning, leaving the bank cordoned off and the G4S van parked outside.
A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: “At around 11.50am, a security guard was outside the Lloyds bank on Broadway when a man approached him and assaulted him, before stealing a cash box containing a quantity of cash.”
The security guard was uninjured but left shaken by the ordeal. The robbery is being investigated by detectives from the Matrix Major Crime Unit.
A shopkeeper said the G4S employee was carrying a case from the van into the bank when he was attacked a man who stole the case and ran off.
He said the robbery took a matter of seconds.
Detectives are examining CCTV from the area and witnesses are being sought. Crime scene investigators have also been in attendance at the scene.
The G4S van drove off at around 2pm and the police left shortly after.
The cash machines outside the bank will continue to work but the bank will remain closed for the remainder of the day.
