ROGERSVILLE TN Nov 16 2016 — A Bluff City couple who have been wanted by the U.S. Marshal’s service for more than eight months on federal probation violation warrants were nabbed Sunday night in Rogersville for allegedly shoplifting at the local Walmart.
According to Rogersville police, shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday, Justin Hawkins, 30, and Samantha Beechum, 34, were arrested for allegedly of attempting to shoplift a coloring book, colored pens, and knit gloves.
RPD Detective Charlie Gibson admitted those were an unusual items for federal fugitives to be shoplifting.
Gibson said there was a further investigation to determine if they had attempted to steal something else that has resale value, but officer found nothing but the gloves, coloring book and “gell pens.”
Their federal probation stems from a 2011 arrest in which Hawkins and Beechum were among 34 meth manufacturing suspects rounded up in Sullivan County.
Detectives said at the time that the two-year operation resulted in the largest meth bust in Sullivan County history.
The suspects were working together to make and sell meth, and all 34 suspects including Hawkins and Beechum were charged federally with conspiracy to manufacture meth.
As of Monday Beechum and Hawkins remained held without bond in the Hawkins County Jail pending transfer to federal court on their probation violation warrant.
