LONGBOAT KEY, Fla. 8/5/17
An armed robbery turned deadly early this morning in South Florida at a beach resort.
Longboat Key police say that during the robbery, the gunman shot and killed Timothy Hurley, 59, who was the night manager at the resort and Bradenton resident, Kevin Carter, 51, the security officer was also shot and killed. He was the evening security guard at the hotel and worked for Victory Security.
Authorities have released surveillance video of the masked, armed robber who shot and the killed two employees early Friday morning at the Zota Beach Resort in Longboat Key.
Police are still searching for the suspect, who is considered armed and dangerous and is on the run.
The video shows a man holding a gun as he walks through a bar at the resort. The man is wearing a mask, a long-sleeved white oxford shirt and dark pants. An overhead video also shows the gunman walking toward a door carrying what appears to be a box.
Longboat Key Police Department Chief Peter Cumming said that the robbery happened inside the hotel around 2:40 a.m. and described the crime as an isolated incident.
“We’re still collecting evidence,” Cumming told WFLA.com.
The entrance to the resort is blocked off and numerous police cars have responded.
The resort opened in June at the site of a former Hilton and is still celebrating its grand opening, according to its website.
A reward of $18,000 is being offered for any information leading to an arrest. This money comes from Crime Stoppers, Zota Beach Resort and the Florida Sheriff’s Association.They amount of the reward money is expected to rise.
