NY armed guard indicted for shooting female friend in face

KINGSTON NY June 9 2017  – A Newburgh man, who was recently certified and licensed for a handgun as an armed guard, was indicted by an Ulster County grand jury for recklessly shooting a female friend in the face.
The incident occurred on February 26 in the Town of Marlboro resulting in extensive injuries to the woman.
Darren Olympia, 22, was charged with felony assault for recklessly causing serious physical injury to the victim.

Ulster County District Attorney Holly Carnright said that following a night of drinking in Newburgh, Olympia and the victim returned to 32 Bingham Road in Marlboro where they continued to socialize. During that time, for no justifiable reason, Olympia pulled his loaded handgun and caused it to discharge, striking the woman in the forehead and blowing out her facial bones.
Olympia has been taken into custody.
