Man accused of attacking Orlando police officer, Universal security guards

Orlando FL May 24 2017 As an Orlando police officer filled out Daniel Melendez’s arrest paperwork, accusing him of hitting an officer and security guards at Universal Orlando, the Kissimmee man apologized for what happened Sunday evening.
“I am sorry man,” he said, according to his arrest affidavit. “I have never fought a cop. I was just super pissed off at those guys and the security guards.”
Melendez, 21, faces charges of battery on a law-enforcement officer, battery on a security officer and disorderly conduct.
Universal guards and an Orlando police officer were trying to separate Melendez from a woman, whom they did not identify in his arrest report.
The woman was crying and had run away from security guards who tried to get her off the property. Melendez, who was behind her with his own escort, yelled “I’m going to get my girl!” and ran toward her, police said.
When he got to her, he stood in front of her with his hands in fists, police said.
Orlando Police Officer Kevin Valencia, who thought Melendez might hit the woman, grabbed Melendez’s left arm to try to separate them.
“Get the [expletive] off,” Melendez said, according to Valencia’s report. “Don't touch me, you [expletive] pig.”
Melendez punched Valencia’s head, then tackled him, pushing him into nearby bushes, Valencia later wrote. Universal security guards pulled Melendez off Valencia and out of the bushes. They eventually handcuffed him and took him into custody.
Melendez’s face was scratched during the arrest, but he declined medical treatment, Valencia wrote. Valencia and the security guards did not report any serious injuries.

Melendez was released on bond from the Orange County Jail.
