St Cloud MN April 27 2017 The 29-year-old suspect in a stabbing at St. Cloud Walmart on Thursday was charged Friday with felony assault.
The suspect is identified as St. Cloud resident Christian Anthony Robert De Beche, according to court documents.
The stabbing sent a 17-year-old female to the hospital and closed the store for the evening. The girl sustained a wound that is not believed to be life-threatening.
According to the criminal complaint, responding officers found the girl "lying in a store aisle in a pool of blood." Officers determined the girl had been stabbed near her right upper back and neck area; officers found at the scene a folding knife with a blade approximately 3 inches in length.
The girl and her mother told police they had "observed a male who appeared to be following them," according to the complaint. The girl's mother said she heard a noise and saw the suspect "appear to be choking her daughter and then determined that in fact her daughter was stabbed." The girl then fell to the ground.
The victim didn't know the suspect, who discarded the weapon and waited after the stabbing for police to come and arrest him, said St. Cloud police Sgt. Jason Burke. Walmart security helped detain the man until police arrived.
De Beche isn't speaking to investigators, and a motive for the attack is unclear, Burke said Friday.
Several police vehicles and emergency personnel responded to the store at 3601 Second St. S at about 7:30 p.m. The victim was treated inside the store before being taken to the hospital.
Walmart was open again Friday morning.
