FLORENCE AL April 17 2017 — A simple misdemeanor shoplifting charge turned into robbery when a Lawrence County man attempted to use force to get away from a loss prevention officer at a Florence business.
Florence police detective Sgt. Brad Holmes said Michael D. Richard, 44, 661 Lawrence 134, Moulton, is charged with fourth-degree theft of property and third-degree robbery.
Holmes said Richard was trying to take items from a business in the Florence Mall.
Reports indicate when the loss prevention officer confronted Michael, the suspect tried to use force to get away but was unsuccessful.

Holmes said the items Michael was trying to take had a value of less than $500.
