Houston TX April 7 2017
Police say that a fired security guard depressed about losing her job, shot and killed four people and critically injured a fifth person.
The shooting spree stretched from South Houston to Fresno Friday, according to Houston police. When it was over, four people were dead, a fifth critically injured.
Houston police responded to a home after a relative of the shooter called police after being told that she hurt someone real bad.
Police found the suspected shooter and two victims shot in a house on Mt. Pleasant near Scott Street around 7:45 a.m.
The suspect and a man believed to be her stepfather were dead. The suspect's mother was rushed to Ben Taub Hospital in critical condition.
A second man was found shot to death in a nearby house. It's not known if he was also related to the suspect. HPD Sgt. Bill Elsbury said the suspect's children were inside that home but they weren't harmed.
Later, Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls said they got a call asking them to check a home in the 4800 block of Richmond Knolls in Fresno. The caller said several family members had been shot in Houston and they were worried about the woman in that house.
Carolyn Jean Holmes, 48, was found shot to death in her Fresno home.
Deputies found 48-year-old Carolyn Jean Holmes shot to death. Relatives at the scene say she was the sister of the suspected shooter in Houston.
"Some people break, they can't handle the problems they are going through in life," John Stewart said. "That's the only thing I can think of is she just broke."
"I just don't see this being her, something had to happen," said Delia Ledat, a family friend. "I don't know if it was depression, I don't know what it was. And I wish I had the chance to ask her before she left this earth. I'm sorry."
Ironically, the suspect dreamed of being a homicide detective, friends say.
The names of the other victims and suspected killer have not been released.
