Teen arrested for trespassing, burning American flag

Porter County IN March 25 2017— A 15-year-old boy faces charges of criminal mischief after allegedly trespassing on private property Wednesday night and burning an American flag, police said.
Police responded about 5:50 p.m. to the Recycling and Waste Reduction site, 2156 W. Lincolnway Highway., to assist security that had a juvenile in custody for vandalism, according to Porter County Sheriff Sgt. Jamie Erow.
In the past month, officers have taken numerous vandalism and trespassing complaints at the compost site. The shed has been vandalized and television sets have been shattered, Erow said in a news release.
"When the security officer arrived to work that night around 5:45 p.m., he observed flames coming from inside one of the loading bays at the rear of the business and saw a male subject holding an American flag that was on fire," Erow said.
A 15-year-old girl was also with the boy, police said.

As the security officer approached in his vehicle, the two teens tried to run away but was detained by the security officer, who called 911, according to police. The boy allegedly told police he burned the American flag to "take out some of his anger."
