Philadelphia PA March 13 2017 A 25-year-old off-duty Philadelphia police officer died from an apparent suicide Saturday morning after shooting himself in his Northeast Philadelphia home Friday night, police said.
The officer, Francis Seibert IV, had been with the department since September 2014 and was assigned to the 24th Police District on Whitaker Avenue in North Philadelphia, police said.
About 10:52 p.m. Friday, officers responded to a "disturbance call" inside Seibert's residence on the 12000 block of Waldemire Drive. There, they observed a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the head and realized he was an off-duty Philadelphia police officer.
Medics transported him to Aria Health-Torresdale, where he was pronounced dead at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, police said. A police spokeswoman said the Medical Examiner's preliminary ruling is that the gunshot wound was self-inflicted.
Police are investigating and are interviewing witnesses.
