Palo Alto CA March 1 2017 Police arrested three East Palo Alto boys early Tuesday morning after a private security guard in a Palo Alto neighborhood noticed the teens pulling on door handles of cars parked on the street and entering one car.
When the private guard went to stop the teens rummaging through a vehicle in the 400 block of Santa Rita Avenue, they drove away, Palo Alto police said in a news release Tuesday afternoon.
The private guard provided police with a license plate number and a description of the vehicle about 12:47 p.m. Minutes later, at 12:53 a.m., a Palo Alto police officer found the suspect vehicle in the 800 block of Center Drive and arrested the suspects.
Police found a pair of sunglasses and a personal check that was taken from the unlocked car in the 400 block of Santa Rita Avenue. Officers also found a bag of handgun ammunition.
The three suspects were taken into custody for felony possession of stolen property, felony conspiracy, misdemeanor theft and misdemeanor minor in possession of ammunition.
Police released two of the boys, a 17-year-old and a 16-year-old, to their parents. The 17-year-old was also arrested for driving without a license.
Police took a third boy, also 17 years old, to Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall because his parents couldn’t be reached.
Names, booking photos and other information of the suspects were not released, in accordance with Palo Alto police’s procedures involving juveniles.

Detectives are investigating whether these suspects are connected to other crimes, either in Palo Alto or surrounding communities, police said.
