Bronx NY Feb 24 2017 A 30-year-old off-duty cop apparently shot himself to death inside his Bronx home Thursday afternoon, police sources said.
The officer, a seven-year NYPD officer who’s assigned to Police Service Area 7 in Melrose, was found shot in his apartment building, The Tideway, on Sedgwick Ave. in Kingsbridge at about 2 p.m., sources said.
Police believe the gunshot was self-inflicted. Cops could not immediately say if he used his service weapon.
Medics rushed him to St. Barnabas Hospital, but he could not be saved.
His name was not released pending family notification.
Police cordoned off Sedgwick Ave. for a quarter mile in either direction of the building, as distressed loved ones spoke to investigators.
He’s the third NYPD officer to commit an apparent suicide this year.
On Jan. 17, Officer Yong Yun, 31, who was assigned to Staten Island’s 120th Precinct, shot himself in the neck in his Arden Heights home. Sources with knowledge of his death said that the cop had a gambling and drinking problem and was recently denied a transfer
Also on Staten Island, Officer Ralph Conde, 33, shot and killed himself in his Great Kills home on Jan. 30.
