Newington CT Feb 16 2017 The man accused of stealing beer from a shop and then dragging a Newington police officer with his car Saturday has been arrested.
Joshua Coonradt, 37, is in custody and will be charged with assault on a police officer, first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree larceny, sixth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny, reckless driving, misuse of registration plates, operating a motor vehicle while under suspension and disobeying the signal of an officer, according to Newington police.
Bail will be set at $150,000.
Coonradt stole $190 worth of beer from Best Market and left in a green Honda Civic, according to police. Officers stopped the car just over the Wethersfield town line, but a struggle ensued after an officer approached the vehicle and saw Coonradt reportedly reach for a handgun on the dashboard, police said.
Coonradt sped off on Wells Road, dragging the officer alongside his car for 150 yards and giving him minor injuries, police said.
Hartford police assisted in the search and located Coonradt in the city on Elliott Street.
