Security Officers Shoot-Kill Sailor at NAS Oceana privateofficer.com



VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. Feb 25 2017 An investigation is underway after a sailor was shot to death by a security officer Friday night.
Police say that the sailor, who police are not identifying, died after being shot by a Naval Air Station Oceana security officer Friday night.
The incident began as a report of a hit and run at the intersection of Dam Neck Road and Drakesmile Road just before 10 p.m.
When Virginia Beach police officers arrived they found the victim of the hit and run. No one was hurt.
Police were able to get a description of the vehicle that left the scene. They also found damage to NAS Oceana Gate 2.
Virginia Beach police officers went onto the base to try to find the vehicle and its driver, and they made contact with base security.
NAS Oceana spokeswoman Jennifer Colaizzi said the security department responded to Virginia Beach police's request for help at 10:15 p.m.
A security officer found a man at the on base. Colaizzi said the security officer shot the man, later identified as a sailor, in order to protect himself and other personnel in the area.
However, police are not elaborating on what that threat was.
The sailor had critical injuries and died at the hospital.
