SACRAMENTO, Calif. Feb 7 2017
Three suspects were arrested early Sunday morning after assaulting an security guard in south Sacramento, police said.
Matthew Schumaker, 24, Lajuane Mowry, 21, and Brian Nieman, 24, were taken into custody after they ran from the scene and were found by Sacramento police officers.
The security guard was attacked by the suspects just before 2 a.m. in the 6800 block of Fruitridge Road after telling them they were trespassing, police said.
The guard then fired a shot at the suspects, leading the suspects, who were not hit by the bullet, to run away. The security guard suffered minor injuries during the attack.
During a search of the area, police found the men. At some point, Schumaker grabbed an officer “in an apparent attempt to trip or injure him,” police said. After a short struggle, officers were able to detain all three men.
The suspects were booked into Sacramento County Jail.
Police said Schumaker was booked on charges of battery on an officer and obstructing an investigation. Mowry was booked on charges of obstructing an investigation and probation violation. Nieman was booked on charges of public intoxication.
Police said the security guard did not want to file charges against the suspects in connection with the assault.
