Miami FL Feb 27 2017 Ravens safety Matt Elam was arrested early Sunday morning on multiple drug charges after being pulled over for reckless driving in Miami, according to Miami-Dade police.
Elam, 25, was booked at 3:45 a.m. and faces three felony charges that include marijuana possession of more than 20 grams, possession of marijuana with the intent to sell, and possession of a controlled substance.
The Ravens’ 2013 first-round pick is also charged with reckless driving and is being held on a $15,500 bond, according to officials.
Elam was found with 126 grams of marijuana and three grams of oxycodone in his vehicle after being pulled over, police said.
Baltimore decided last May not to pick up Elam’s fifth-year option for the 2017 season, which will make the safety a free agent next month.
The Ravens confirmed Sunday that Elam, who served a one-game suspension in October 2015 for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy, will not return to the team.
“We are aware of the arrest of Matt Elam,” the Ravens said in a statement. “Matt is not in our plans for the 2017 Ravens.”
