WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. Jan 24 2017- When authorities in Lehigh County on Saturday arrested a 34-year-old man for shoplifting, police discovered 21 active arrest warrants, including the theft of more than $1,000 of skin care products from an Allentown CVS.
Joseph G. Darracott faces five felony counts and one misdemeanor count of retail theft in connection with a series of alleged thefts over the last nine months. District Judge Michael D’Amore arraigned Darracott late Saturday night, setting bail at a combined $30,000 on three sets of charges.
Security personnel at Kohl’s in Whitehall Township alleged Darracott walked out of the store on Friday with $837 in merchandise and nearly $800 on Saturday, according to court records. Whitehall Township police stopped a car on Crescent Court East matching the description provided by security.
Security personnel identified Darracott as the alleged shoplifter, and police later discovered the 21 active warrants, including 11 felony arrest warrants and warrant out of Alabama seeking extradition, according to court records.
Records do not indicate the charges Darracott faces in Alabama.
Pennsylvania State Police with the Fogelsville barracks were dispatched to the Giant grocery store in Lower Macungie Township to investigate a retail theft that happened in August. The suspect, later identified through a tattoo as Darracott, allegedly lifted four boxes of Crest White Strips, an Axe deodorant and a Mederma skin cream worth about $276, according to records.
Security personnel at the Giant grocery store in South Whitehall Township reported to police that a shoplifter later identified as Darracott in May allegedly stole $211 worth of Olay skin cream and in August returned to pilfer four packages of Flonase worth about $96, according to records.
Allentown police in May were dispatched to the CVS in the 1600 block of Liberty Street to investigate a reported theft of more than $1,000 worth of skin creams and cleansers. Authorities allege it was Darracott who swiped 37 facial products.
Court records list addresses for Darracott in Lehigh Township, Northampton County, and Huntsville, Ala. He failed to post bail and was sent to Lehigh County Jail to await a preliminary hearing tentatively scheduled for Jan. 30.
