Pine Bluff AR Dec 13 2016 An employee of the Pine Bluff Walmart Supercenter was arrested Saturday after she allegedly stole more than $3,700 from her register.
Shyrence Simmons, 21, allegedly loaded money onto prepaid credit or gift cards without depositing cash into her register, Pine Bluff Police Department Detective Jeremy Oswalt said in a probable cause affidavit presented in district court Monday.
According to the affidavit, Roger Wise, a loss prevention officer at the store, contacted police Dec. 1 to report that Simmons' register had come up short on a number of occasions, and that security video showed her loading the cards, then cancelling the transactions without putting the corresponding amount of cash in the register to cover the amounts.
Store records indicated that there were eight transactions totaling $3,712.29 between Nov. 26 and Nov. 30.
Simmons was not at the store when the report was taken but returned Saturday and was arrested.
Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $10,000 bond for Simmons after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge her with theft of property.
The Public Defender's Office was appointed to represent Simmons.
