DORAL, Fla. Dec 25 2016- A security guard with a keen eye helped police catch a suspected package thief in a Doral neighborhood.
Angel Gutierrez, 23, of Coral Gables, was arrested Thursday after he returned to the Grand Bay Estates community with his girlfriend, Ashley Aranda.
Doral police said Gutierrez stole a package that was left outside a home in the community where Aranda lives. Police said Gutierrez was on his way to pick up his girlfriend Wednesday when he noticed the box on the porch, opened it and put it in the back seat of his car.
According to an arrest affidavit, Aranda noticed the box of stolen Tommy Hilfiger towels and pointed out another house with a box left on the porch. Police said Gutierrez got out of the car and took that box, as well.
Surveillance video from one of the homes showed the thief and became the tool that ultimately led to Gutierrez's arrest.
The alert security guard recognized Gutierrez from the video and let him through the front gate. Then he called police.
Within minutes, police swarmed the community and detained Gutierrez at his girlfriend's home.
Gutierrez apologized and said he was going to return the packages, police said.
Aranda led officers to her bedroom and garage, where the stolen property was found, police said.

Gutierrez and Aranda were booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on burglary and theft charges.
