Student dies after falling from moving school bus in Texas

EDINBURG, Texas Nov 16 2016 A Harlingen student died Monday morning after falling from a school bus on U.S. 281 in Edinburg.
Three buses left Vernon Middle School on Monday morning for a field trip to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley campus in Edinburg, said Shane Strubhart, a spokesman for the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District.
A teenage boy fell from a school bus on U.S. 281 northbound, said Assistant Police Chief Oscar Trevino, a spokesman for the Edinburg Police Department.
Details about how, exactly, the teenager fell from a moving bus on U.S. 281 weren't immediately available.
The teenager suffered a serious head injury and was transported to McAllen Medical Center for treatment, Trevino said. He later died.
The Harlingen school district canceled the field trip and will notify parents about what happened, Strubhart said.

The Texas Department of Public Safety, the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office, the Edinburg Police Department, the Edinburg Consolidated School District Police Department and the Edinburg Volunteer Fire Department responded to the incident.
