Man arrested for threatening Mayfair Shopping Center security with hatchet

Victoria Canada Nov 30 2016 A man is custody tonight after a security guard at the Mayfair Shopping Centre said he was threatened with a hatchet.
The incident began at 6:23 p.m. when the 31-year old was approached by the guard as he was leaving the Hudson’s Bay store at the mall under suspicion of shoplifting.
The guard told police that the suspect then pulled out a hatchet and threatened him with it before fleeing.
The guard gave chase and called 911.
8 officers from Victoria and Sannich police responded as well as K-9 unit.
The suspect made it across Blanshard, through the Accent Inn, and was seen running through several backyards before he was arrested on Rutledge Street without incident.
No one was injured.
The K-9 unit later found two hatchets and other items the suspect allegedly discarded while fleeing.
The suspect is known to police and was wanted on several other outstanding warrants.
Victoria Police say he’ll be in court tomorrow.

He faces charges including armed robbery, assault with a weapon and resisting arrest.
