Madison County AL Nov 3 2016 A Information Technology employee of the Madison County Sheriff's Office has been arrested on two counts of possession of child pornography.
Jonathan Sheldon, 36, resigned his position with the Sheriff's Office weeks ago, according to a news release from Sheriff Blake Dorning. Sheldon is held in the Madison County Jail with bail set at $30,000.
Investigators were working an unrelated internal affairs investigation when they discovered pornographic images of children on the computer Sheldon had used for work, Capt. Michael Salomonsky said. He declined comment on the nature of the investigation.
"His resignation had nothing to do with this," Salomonsky said. "He had no idea we were looking into anything. During the internal affairs investigation, I brought in his computer."
When investigators learned about the pornography, the computer was turned over to an Internet Crimes Against Children detective and a forensic analysis was performed, Salomonsky said.
Investigators served a search warrant at Sheldon's home this morning and seized several computers that will be analyzed forensically as well, Salomonsky said.
"We are trying to be transparent and accountable about what's going on and how we found out the situation," the captain said. "This is a result of our accountability through the IA investigation."
