8 arrested after Plaza Frontenac theft, pursuit across the area

St Louis MO Nov 28 2016 A theft at a store at Plaza Frontenac ended with a police chase in central Illinois.
Officers from multiple police agencies arrested eight people they say are responsible for a theft and a high-speed pursuit across the St. Louis and Metro East areas.
The incident began early Saturday morning at the Plaza Frontenac in St. Louis. Police say 12 people were involved in a theft, stealing handbags and other expensive items from the Chanel store.
One of the vehicles was spotted on northbound Interstate 55 near Maryville, Ill. A Maryville police officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to pull over.
A pursuit began and continued on northbound I-55, even after the suspects’ vehicle hit road spikes around Mt. Olive, deflating one of the tires. The driver drove through Litchfield with the flat tire, then got back on I-55.
Eventually, the subjects hit the center median just south of Farmersville and stopped. Eight occupants fled on foot, but all were apprehended and are currently in the Montgomery County Jail in Hillsboro, Ill. Police are still searching for the remaining four more suspects.
Agencies involved in the case include the Illinois State Police, Hamel Police Department, Macoupin County Sheriff’s Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, Maryville Police Department, Litchfield Police Department, and Taylor Springs Police Department.
