Montgomery MD Nov 3 2016 Fourteen students have been taken to the hospital Wednesday afternoon after a girl set off pepper spray on a school bus outside a Montgomery County elementary school, police and fire officials say.
An 11-year-old girl set off the pepper spray on a bus at the Watkins Mill Elementary School parking lot in the 19000 block of Watkins Mill Road, police said. It doesn't appear the girl intentionally sprayed anyone, police said.
Police are investigating how she got the pepper spray, why she had it and why it went off.
Emergency workers evaluated 56 students who were exposed to the spray and 14 of them have been taken to the hospital as a precaution. All of the students have non-life threatening injuries, Piringer said. Piringer originally said 30 students were taken to the hospital.
Two medical ambulance buses were at the school assisting students.
