Anna Catarino, 46, of Newark faces fraud and other charges, a statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said.
Catarino’s alleged scheme, which ran from February 2013 to October 2013, involved using the names of people she knew were getting rightful unemployment payments. They included those of longtime friends whom she had helped fill out unemployment paperwork, the statement said.
She was arrested following a joint investigation by officials from the prosecutor's office, the state’s Department of Labor and authorities from the U.S. Department of Labor’s office of inspector general and its office of labor racketeering and fraud investigations, the statement said.
Catarino is scheduled to be arraigned on fraud, computer theft and other charges on Feb. 11.
