Man commits suicide at West Virginia Walmart store www.privateofficer.com

MARTINSBURG WV Jan 20 2013 - The death of a man found behind the Walmart on Foxcroft Avenue in Martinsburg has been ruled a suicide by the state Medical Examiner's Office in Charleston, and police are asking for the public's help as they try to determine who he is.

"The medical examiner's office performed an autopsy and ruled the manner of death a suicide," Cpl. S.F. Doyle said in a telephone interview Friday. "We were able to locate evidence pertaining to this investigation, which determined that the incident had occurred on Tuesday morning at approximately 12:45 a.m."

At about 9 a.m. Thursday, police were called about a body with a gun beside it in the rear of the department store. They found a white male lying between stacks of recycled debris with a gunshot to the side of his head. They also found a Ruger .38 revolver from which one shot had been fired.

"We're still working on trying to identify him," Doyle said. "We had a photograph that was located on his person, in among some other stuff he had. We're hoping somebody knows who he is so we can identify him."

The man is described by police as an older, balding, white male more than 50 years old with white hair. Police believe he had a physical impairment to the left hand.

He was wearing a red polo shirt; black jeans; a grey, zipped, hooded sweatshirt; a fanny pack; and black shoes. Anyone with information regarding the identity of the man is asked to contact the Martinsburg Police Department at 304-264-2100.
