Marion County KY Deputy Sheriff Shot To Death

LEBANON, KY Nov 14 2012- A Marion County sheriff's deputy has been shot and killed, and Kentucky State Police say they have caught the suspected gunman.

Investigators say that at around 2 a.m. Marion County Deputy Anthony Raikes stopped a 2007 KIA on US 68. During the traffic stop the driver shot Deputy Raikes.

Raikes was taken to Springview Hospital in Lebanon, where died in surgery of his wounds.

Troopers caught up with the driver, Dewayne Shipp, 49, and arrested him in Campbellsville.  Shipp had been shot in the leg, possibly by Deputy Raikes. At last report, Shipp was being treated at the Taylor County Hospital.

Deputy Raikes was a six year veteran of the Marion County Sheriff's Department and had previously served with the Lebanon Police Department.
