Jupiter Florida police officer in President Barack motorcade killed

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. Sept 9 2012 - A Jupiter police officer was killed Sunday afternoon after his motorcycle was struck by a vehicle while he was riding in a motorcade as President Barack Obama was on his way to the Palm Beach County Convention Center, said Teri Barbera, spokeswoman for the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

Barbera said the officer (whose name and age have not been released) was about to shut down Interstate 95 by the 45 th Street exit when he was struck by a vehicle.

The officer was rushed to St. Mary's Medical Center where he later died, Barbera said.

The accident happened around 4:45 p.m.

Barbera says the accident is under investigation.

Obama spoke Sunday afternoon to supporters at the Palm Beach County Convention Center in West Palm Beach.
