ST. LOUIS COUNTY MO Jan 27 2012 A Florissant man has been charged with robbery after a security officer caught him trying to rob a bank.
Brian Joseph Schappe, 27, of the 1000 block of Cheyenne Drive in Florissant, was charged Wednesday in St. Louis County with first-degree robbery. He is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
On Tuesday afternoon, Schappe allegedly walked into the Southern Commercial Bank at 6969 South Lindbergh Boulevard and demanded money. A security officer who works for the bank held Schappe until police arrived. No one was hurt.
Schappe is scheduled to make his initial court appearance this morning at the courthouse in St. Louis County.
Schappe's criminal history includes drug possession in Jefferson County in 2007 and a stealing a firearm in St. Louis County in 2008. Court records show he was ordered to undergo drug treatment. He was put on five years' probation.
When his probation was revoked several months later, he was ordered to serve a 120-day "shock" sentence in the Missouri Department of Corrections.
