Des Moines IA Dec 30 2011 Police on Tuesday accused an employee of Younkers, 1111 E. Army Post Road, of stealing from his employer.
Wayne Michael Shimer, 20, of Des Moines, was charged with fourth degree theft.
Shimer worked at Younkers for about a month. Police were told by loss prevention employees that Shimer’s cash drawer came up short on Dec. 18 and Dec. 23, for a total loss of $370.
Video recordings from those dates were checked. Loss prevention claims Shimer can be seen taking cash out of the drawer and placing it in his pocket. When approached by store employees, Shimer reportedly admitted to stealing from the company.
Officers said in a report that Shimer was wearing a long sleeve dress shirt with button-down collar at the time of his arrest. It had been purchased at Younkers.
The report continues: “Shimer says he bought the shirt with money that was stolen. Shimer agreed to give the shirt back before going to PCJ (the Polk County Jail.)”
The report does not say what he was wearing during his trip to lockup.
