Spokane police arrest prolific criminal with more than 125 arrests

SPOKANE WA Dec 19 2011 -- The nighttime Patrol Anti-Crime Team arrested a prolific criminal. Police arrested Kristopher Roybal, 34, just minutes after the said he broke into several cars parked near the Spokane Arena for the Chiefs' hockey game Saturday night.

Officer Wheeler saw Roybal driving a red Cadillac in the area and knew his license was suspended. Roybal attempted to hide his car in a parking lot, but Officer Wheeler spotted him at 1300 N. Lincoln. A woman's purse and a car stereo could be seen inside the car and, with Roybal's criminal history, they were believed to be stolen.

With events going on at the Lincoln Center and the Spokane Arena, parking lots were full and cars lined the streets. PACT officers located three victims of vehicle prowlings in the 400-500 block of West Sharp. Two of them had windows smashed out and purses stolen.

Officer Wheeler obtained a search warrant for the car, where one victim's purse was recovered in the front seat and the second victim's purse was found in the trunk. Also found were multiple tools and shaved keys, used to gain entry into vehicles.

Kristopher Roybal, labeled a "ROP" (Repeat Offender Program) in the police database, was booked into the Spokane County Jail on 3 charges of 2nd degree theft. Roybal's 21 year criminal history includes 125 separate bookings into local jail charges that include vehicle thefts, possession of stolen property, forgery, and possession of controlled substance.
