Wilmington nightclub security officer shot www.privateofficer.com

WILMINGTON, NC May 28 2011 - Officers with the Wilmington Police Department arrested a man in connection to the shooting that took place at The Edge Lounge early Thursday morning.

According to witnesses, a bouncer stepped in when a fight broke out and tried to break it up, but he was shot in the leg by one of the brawlers in the process.

Police say the victim had walked outside with several bar patrons, heard shots fired in the area and ran back into the club. Another employee saw a group of men leave the area in two separate cars. This all happened around 1:30 Thursday morning.

Wilmington police stopped a car matching the description a short time later and detained three people for questioning.

After more investigation, they arrested Walter Rogers Harvin, 32, and charged him with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. Harvin is in jail on a $75,000 bond.

The employee was responsive when EMS arrived. He was the only one injured.

The manager of The Edge, Warren Robinson, said he had contacted ALE a few days ago to voice concerns about violence from certain downtown Wilmington bars spreading to other parts of the city.

"This crowd that's causing this trouble isn't a crowd showing support to any one establishment because they cause trouble," said Robinson. "They bounce from one place to next the next."

Robinson said he can almost pinpoint the chain reaction to The Rhino Club closing. He says he noticed an influx of younger people going to his establishment. Robinson plans to change the age limit from 21 to 25.
