Polk County Sheriff's employee charged with shoplifting www.privateofficer.com

Lakeland, Florida Feb 23 2011 -- A probationary employee with the Polk County Sheriff's Office and a friend were cited Monday for allegedly shoplifting at Lakeland Square Mall.

Deputies said William B. Anderson, 19, and Jacob A. Register, 18, both of Lakeland, selected a rubber bracelet from a display at Spencer Gifts, removed the price tags, put the bracelets in their pockets and walked past the store clerk and register.

Anderson and Register were each given a notice to appear in court.

The sheriff's office said Anderson was a probationary employee, hired last November as a Telecommunicator. He resigned rather than be fired, the sheriff's office said.

The value of both bracelets was $5.98.
