BLUFFTON, S.C. Dec 28 2010 Beaufort County police say a man has been shot during an argument with a tow truck operator.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reported that 34-year-old Carlos Olivera was shot Friday night in front of his brother's home.
Beaufort County Sheriff P.J. Tanner says Olivera and tow truck operator Preston Oates had a disagreement over whether Olivera had properly parked his minivan. Oates told the sheriff he has a contract to patrol parking in the neighborhood.
Olivera balked at paying $300 to get Oates to remove a parking boot from his minivan.
Nelson Olivera said his brother showed Oates a handgun tucked in the waistband of his pants, but never pointed it. Oates told the newspaper he acted in self-defense.
No one has been charged and police are still investigating the shooting.
