Indianapolis IN Oct 12 2010 - Indianapolis Airport police arrested a US Airways flight attendant for what she was trying to get through security. TSA screeners found contraband under her uniform.
For passengers, passing through security to get to a flight is a necessary nuisance.
While some have complained about privacy issues with the new full body scanners, it was just that technology that helped reveal a crime by an airline worker.
According to police reports, 39-year-old Floydrina Williams of Georgia was charged with possession of cocaine for the suspicious image a TSA officer noticed on the body scanner. It prompted a "pat down" and the discovery of a "white powdery substance" believed to be cocaine.
Williams, who airline officials say was off duty at the time, at first denied it was drugs, saying the bag contained tampons. She later admitted that "it was cocaine for personal use only."
Twenty-two grams worth of the drug was packaged in nine small individual baggies located in Williams waistband when it was picked up by the scanners.
Williams now faces charges of cocaine possession and dealing cocaine. According to her employer, she won't be working flights anytime soon.
Because this is under investigation, we could get no official comment from airport police. We did learn that they were expected to meet with prosecutors today to talk about the charges.
Williams has no criminal history. A US Airways spokesperson says she has been removed from flying indefinitely.
