Security officer shot in the head-police make arrests www.privateofficer.com

Cummings GA. Sept 7 2010 The masked gunmen who robbed an Ingles in Cumming late Sunday night, killing a security guard, had help from an employee who was in the store at the time, authorities said.

That employee was arrested Monday after "he started spilling the beans on everybody," Forsyth County Sheriff Ted Paxton told the AJC.

After the employee's revelation, authorities arrested three of his co-conspirators at the Mall of Georgia Monday afternoon, Paxton said. They were taken into custody without incident.

Sheriff's deputies and Cumming police continue to search for more suspects, including the gunman who shot guard David Casto, 37, in the head, Paxton said. Casto's body was left in the store freezer.

"We do not feel confident that the actual killer is in custody, the one who did the shooting," Paxton said. "There are two different locations where we're still serving warrants that will produce more evidence."

Casto, a Winder resident, was employed by Executive Security Services of Atlanta, which supplies security for Ingles.

Casto was one of three employees in the Canton Road grocery store at the time of the robbery. The other two, a man and woman, were not hurt. They were tied up with duct tape and left in the cooler, too.

Paxton said it appeared Casto was disarmed well before he was shot.

"The evidence is pretty compelling," Paxton said. "It was a senseless killing."

The store closed at 11 p.m., and it's unclear whether the robbers came in just before or just after closing, Paxton said. There were no customers inside.

The store does not have surveillance cameras.

However, Paxton said these may be the same suspects who robbed a Waffle House and a convenience store in Forsyth County in the past two weeks.

"There are similarities between all three robberies," he said.

At one point during Sunday's robbery, two gunmen took the man and woman to the office while the third gunman stayed in the cooler with Casto, Paxton said. When the man and woman were brought back to the cooler, Casto was dead, Paxton said.

"It appears only the one gunshot was fired" during the incident, Paxton said. He would not say what kind of weapon was used.

The robbers escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The surviving employees were able to remove the duct tape fairly quickly. The 911 call came in at 11:31 p.m.

Initially, those employees were both described as victims. It was only later that authorities discovered the male employee "was a co-conspirator," Paxton said.
